On 8 March, 2020, YONECO conducted community engagement meetings in the area of Traditional Authority (T/A) Mlumbe, Zomba district to mark this year’s commemoration of International Women’s Day (T/A).

Among other things, community members appreciated the important role which women play in promoting social and economic development of their areas.  However, community leaders also bemoaned increased number of Gender Based Violence (GBV) cases.

The community meetings were simultaneously conducted at Mbeza Primary School, Namilongo, and in the areas of Group Village Head Mchinjo and Makunganya. In total, 1,776 people attended the activities in all the areas.

The meetings were also spiced up by live performances by YONECO Cultural Troupe. This year, the day was commemorated under the theme, Each for Equal.
