In an effort to enhance child protection and development activities, YONECO has established an Early Childhood Development (ECD) Centre at Lauji 2 Village in Chikwawa district.

The intervention is a result of a community interface meeting on Gender Based Violence (GBV) and child protection which YONECO previously organized in the area. As part of their contribution towards successful implementation of the initiative, two community members will be volunteering as care givers.

Currently, the centre has enrolled a total of 60 children and the number is expected to increase as new leaners are being registered every week.

The District Social Welfare Officer for Chikwawa, Aaron Macheka, has commended the initiative and provided assorted playing materials to be used at the centre.  Macheka urged community members to continuously own the initiative so that it should achieve its intended objectives.
