As one way of strengthening child protection and development, YONECO has trained community caregivers who will be facilitating sessions at Mwachande Children’s Corner which is in the area of Traditional Authority (T/A) Mponda in Mangochi district.

The training is among the interventions that are aimed at establishing and strengthening community child protection systems. The training is expected to contribute towards the prevention of alcohol and drug abuse among young people in the area.

Child Corners are safe spaces where children play and at the same time get support from caregivers on issues that affect them. In addition to this, children also access life skills education which enables them to make right choices as they grow up.

The intervention is among the various activities which YONECO is implementing under Empowering Young People to Fight Drug and Alcohol Abuse Project in Mangochi district. The project is being funded by NCA-DCA and it targets young people who are within the age bracket of 10 and 24 years.
