Traditional leaders from the area of Senior Chief Kaphuka in Dedza have commended interventions which YONECO is implementing in the district under Action for Teen Mothers and Adolescent Girls Project.

Speaking during a joint monitoring visit which Dedza District Council organized, the traditional leaders explained that the project has had a positive impact on both adolescent girls and the community at large.

Among other things, the leaders explained that the various interventions of the project have galvanized community action against Gender-Based Violence (GBV), and strengthened community child protection systems.

In his remarks, Village Head Mthandiza further commended the project for empowering adolescent girls and teen mothers to make informed decisions.

Among other interventions, YONECO has been conducting community trainings on child protection, supporting community dialogue sessions on GBV using SASA! tool, raising awareness on issues that affect teen mothers and adolescent girls through community radio stations, and facilitating parent-child communication sessions.

YONECO is implementing the Action for Teen Mothers and Adolescent Girls in Central Region project in Mchinji and Dedza with funding from KOICA and UNFPA.
