Human Rights Day is celebrated every year on 10 December. The occasion commemorates the day the United Nations General Assembly adopted, in 1948, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). The document outlines the fundamental rights of all human beings that must be protected universally. The day reaffirms the importance of human rights in re-building the world we want for global solidarity as well as our interconnectedness and shared humanity.
This year, the Day is being commemorated under the theme; ‘Recover Better: Stand Up For Human Rights.’
10 December also marks the end of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence. However, the end of the campaign should not mean the end of our efforts towards ending GBV. Let us remain vigilant in order to combat GBV and all other human rights violations.
