Today, our team in Ntcheu district conducted an awareness session on non-communicable diseases (NCDs) with community members at Eneya in Ntcheu district.

The session was aimed at promoting healthy living and health seeking behaviour (HSB) among community members.

Participants were made aware of general signs and symptoms of prevalent NCDs in Malawi like diabetes, high blood pressure, as well as cervical and breast cancer among others.

Participants described the session as an eye-opener and avowed to share the information they got with other community members who did not manage to attend the session.

According to the Centre for Disease Control (CDC) NCDs, such as heart disease, cancer, chronic respiratory disease, and diabetes, are the leading cause of death worldwide and represent an emerging global health threat. Deaths from NCDs now exceed all communicable disease deaths combined.

The session was attended by a total of 25 people of which 4 were men and 21 were women.
