YONECO has supported a total of 45

students with school uniforms, shoes and other necessary materials for their studies.

The young people were withdrawn from the streets of Zomba and Lilongwe cities and they are now staying at Lilongwe Social Rehabilitation Centre and YONECO home for young people in Zomba.

Out of the 45, 30 are from Lilongwe while 15 are from Zomba. Three young people out of the 45 are now in secondary school while the others are pursuing their primary school studies.

“When everyone is dressed in the same way, there is no way someone could be worrying about his or her dressing. Thus, a school uniform helps to improve learning by reducing distraction and it teaches students to dress neatly, explained Hughes Munthali – Programme Support Manager.

The young people have also been supported with casual clothes to wear when they are not at school.

YONECO is managing the Lilongwe Social Rehabilitation Centre on behalf of the Malawi government.
