YONECO office in Rumphi implements various programmatic activities that are aimed at enhancing the rights and welfare of the youth, women and children in district. Among other key interventions, the office is responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of a Safe Place for survivors of Gender Based Violence (GBV) and child abuse, a youth Drop-in Centre as well as case management.

As a way of sustaining such interventions, YONECO district office in Rumphi has embarked on maize, groundnuts and beans farming. According to YONECO’s District Manager for Rumphi, George Mbizi, the proceeds from the agribusiness venture will be used to support repatriation of clients who are accommodated at the safe place, procurement of sundries, paying utility bills. Further to this, Mbizi explained that some maize will be saved as food for other safe place clients.

“We are hopeful that we will harvest enough yields in accordance to our plans. We have started well and we intend to extend our farm in the next growing season” explained Mbizi.
