YONECO joined partners and community members in commemorating the Day of the African Child in Nsanje district at a function that was held on 13 August, 2022 at Lulwe Primary School Ground in the area of Traditional Authirity (T/A) Ndamela.

The function was presided over by the Chairperson of Nsanje District Council, Rose Makaiyi.

YONECO showcased its interventions that are being implemented to enhance the rights and welfare of the youth, women and children in Malawi.

The Day of the African Child is an annual commeration event that is aimed at raising awareness about the issues that affect children in the continent. The Day is widely commemorated on 16 June every year but Nsanje organized its district commeration event on 13 August.

This year, the Day of the African Child was celebrated under the theme; “Eliminating Harmful Practices Affecting Children: Progress on Policy and Practice since 2013”.
