YONECO is participating in the ongoing African Union 40th Ordinary Session of the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (ACERWC) which is being held in Maseru, Lesotho.

YONECO is being represented by Vitumbiko Namondwe – Coordinator for Partnerships and Resource Mobilization Coordinator.

Among other things, the members present have discussed the need to enhance cooperation in order to address the impingement of children’s rights in Africa.

In his remarks, the Deputy Director for Child Affairs in the Ministry of Gender, Community Development and Social Welfare, Justin Hamela, commended the collaboration between companies, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and the Malawi government which has seen a significant impact in addressing issues of child labour in tea production.

The session commenced on 23 November and it will end on 1 December, 2022.
