YONECO and other members of Ntcheu District Civil Protection Committee (DCPC) members conducted a Post-Disaster Needs Assessment (PDNA) in the area of Group Village Head (GVH) Phanga, Traditional Authority (T/A) Masasa in Ntcheu district.

The exercise was conducted following Tropical Cyclone Freddy which greatly affected districts across the southern region of Malawi.

Fortunately, there were no fatalities, but many people lost their losses, including crops and livestock. In addition, the assessment established that floods had washed away many latrines, creating a health hazard.

Furthermore, those who lost their homes are now constructing temporary shelters.

The affected households urgently need support in form of food and other necessary Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) facilities in order to alleviate their suffering and protect them from diseases.
