There is a growing concern that Taxi Bicycle Operators (TBOs) in Mangochi are preferring to simply sleep around with a young female customer than get cash for their service. This is not only a breach of the rights of the girl child but also puts them in danger of contracting Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) including HIV.
It is against this backdrop that YONECO organized a series of sensitization sessions with TBOs around the municipality of Mangochi. The sessions mainly focused on various legal frameworks that protect and criminalize sexual violence.
The TBOs who were reached with the sessions were also urged to report such cases when they occur. YONECO further publicized various community, district, and national reporting mechanisms.
In total, YONECO engaged 350 TBOs around Mangochi town.
