In a recent meeting, the District Executive Committee (DEC) in Chitipa has given its approval for the implementation of Building Education Foundations through Innovation and Technology (BEFIT) Programme interventions.
The meeting was held on 10 July2023 and it was attended by key stakeholders from various sectors to deliberate on the plans for the implementation of the programme.

BEFIT Programme is being led by the Malawi Ministry of Education and it is aimed at improving primary school children’s acquisition of literacy and numeracy skills. The programme is a rollout of a national tablet-based learning intervention to all Standard 1 and 4 in Malawi’s public primary schools, supplementing teacher efforts and ultimately reaching 3.8 million learners in 5800 schools.

YONECO, as one of the implementing partners, introduced this programme to key stakeholders including community leaders. A total of 6, 037 learners from 30 primary schools will benefit from the programme within the initial stage.

During the meeting, the DEC acknowledged the importance of the programme in addressing the challenges faced by learners in the district. The DEC members expressed satisfaction with the proposed interventions and agreed to support and collaborate with all BEFIT Programme partners to ensure its successful implementation.

Malawi will be one of the first nations to scale a digital personalized learning solution countrywide and it will create a roadmap for other countries to follow.
