YONECO has challenged the youth in the area of Traditional Authority (T/A) Mkumbira in Nkhata Bay district to exercise their rights in a responsible manner.

YONECO made the call during a human rights awareness session that was held at Kambuwi Primary School in the area. The session was organized after it was noted that Young people are more aware of their rights than their corresponding obligations.

Speaking during the event, the Project Officer for YONECO, Michael Mwanachawa, emphasized the importance of responsible exercise of rights, especially in the current digital era.

Mwanachawa encouraged the youth to use social media platforms positively and avoid spreading fake news and engaging in cyberbullying.

He said, “While it is important for the youth to exercise their rights, it is equally important for them to do so responsibly. We urge them to use social media platforms positively by promoting dialogue, tolerance, and understanding.”

The session was attended by a total of 176 which included 75 girls and 101 boys.
