YONECO has urged leaders from the area of Traditional Authority (TA) Nyaluwanga in Nkhata Bay district to step up efforts to ensure that teen mothers are returning to school after delivery.
This was said by the Programme Support Manager for YONECO in the Northern Region, Dunreck Pande, during an engagement meeting which YONECO held with community and traditional leaders in the area.
The meeting was aimed at finding workable solutions towards addressing challenges that are affecting young people’s education in the area.
Among others, the session was also attended by members of Nyaluwanga Area Development Committee (ADC), members of Mother Groups, Parents Teacher Association (PTA), School Management Committee (SMC), and Village District Council (VDC).
During the discussions, it was also noted that teen girls who drop out of school because of pregnancy face a lot of obstacles that prevent them from going back to school after giving birth as stipulated by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology. As such, the meeting agreed a number of action points that are aimed at guiding the process of supporting girls to return to school after delivery.
In total, the session was attended by a total of 30 community and traditional leaders.
