Youth Net and Counselling (YONECO) is a local NGO that is committed to empowering youth, women and children, preventing the spread of HIV infection, mitigating the impact of AIDS, promoting democracy and human rights and conducting research on youth, women and children development. YONECO works with both local and international NGOs and donors, government departments and Community Based Organizations. YONECO has programmes and projects in Zomba, Mchinji, Ntchisi, Mulanje, Thyolo, Phalombe, Chiradzulu, Mangochi, Machinga, Balaka, Ntcheu, Nkhata Bay, Lilongwe, Chikhwawa and Rumphi. YONECO also has national programmes like the first ever child helpline in Malawi for the protection and promotion of child rights. The Fundraising and Resource Mobilization Officer plays a central role in defining resource mobilization strategies, identifying markets, building relationships, strategically positioning YONECO with potential funders and partners, strengthening YONECO capacity for fundraising and resource mobilization, and responding to funding opportunities and call for proposals.

As a member of the YONECO Institutional Business Development (YIBD) team the IFRMO works under the supervision of the Executive Director. S/he also collaborates with the YONECO Programme Managers and others members to identify and respond to specific foundations and corporate funding opportunities.

The IFRMO is expected to be aware of the funding environment throughout Malawi, and participate in opportunity response as directed by the Executive Director.

This position will support the programme manager’s team in mobilization of resources for YONECO Strategic Plan for the core programmes by identifying and sourcing for funding and resource opportunities from multiple sources.

The incumbent will support the Executive Director to coordinate and manage the grant portfolio and take a lead in closer coordination with management team, in the design and implementation of a robust resource mobilization system including staffing, systems and processes.

He/she will develop an Annual Resource Mobilization Plan to meet the fundraising targets envisaged in YONECO 5-year Resource Mobilization Strategy.

He/She will also be responsible for supporting the management and coordination of donors and provide technical support and advice on proposal development to the resource mobilization and program team members at the head office and district level offices.

Lastly, he/she will develop innovative approaches in mobilizing resources at the community, local and international levels.

Education and Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree plus five (5) years’ job-related experience in Malawi
  • Experience in youth, women and children or related field: 3 – 5 years working in the youth, women and children sector, assisting organisations development and experience in specific field or closely- related job, Fluent in English

Most Critical Proficiencies

Demonstrated success leading proposal teams, experience managing complex, multi-partner proposals; exceptional program design, writing, and editing skills. Ability to meet deadlines and produce high-quality work under pressure; Willingness and ability to travel domestically, regionally and internationally for assignments; Ability to communicate effectively with internal colleagues and external clients and strong leadership, teamwork, coaching and communication skills. Strong, proven team-building and change/transition management skills. Proficiency in MS Office.
