YONECO has donated Manna Packs of Rice to two households with which have undernourished children at Chikanda Township in Zomba.

The children who have benefitted from this gesture were identified through Health Surveillance Assistants (HSAs) from the area who provide health talks and other services to the communities.

Manna Pack Rice is a formula created to meet nutritional needs of children who are severely malnourished. The vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients contained within the blend of rice, dehydrated vegetables, and soy nuggets help people who are undernourished to get back onto an adequate dietary track.

Undernutrition remains a prevailing challenge affecting under-five children in Malawi. The impacts of undernutrition are severe and have irreversible as well as long-lasting implications on a child. It is responsible for the annual deaths of 3.5 million under-five children globally and the third disease burden of this age group. It continues to be a significant global public health and development concern.
